Decuir Gets a Little Boost at Irwindale

Share

Troy Decuir of Riverside earned his first victory of the season, with help from Dan Digiacomo, in the 99-lap Mechanix Wear Speed Trucks series feature Saturday night before 4,962 fans at Irwindale Speedway.

Decuir had been challenging series leader Lee Hatch, who had led the race from the start. On lap 88, Digiacomo bumped into the back of Hatch, who had been holding off Decuir. The loss of momentum was enough for Decuir to take the lead and hold off both Hatch and Digiacomo for the victory. Hatch’s second-place finish increased his lead over John Burritt with two races left in the regional series.

In the 50-lap Grand American Modified season finale, Andrew Phipps earned rookie of the year and the series title by holding off Travis Thirkettle.
