TCU Unbeaten, Uninspiring
With the first bowl championship series standings coming out Monday, Texas Christian had one last chance to prove it should start out in the upper tier.
Instead, the Horned Frogs’ 27-24 victory over UAB on Saturday night was more indicative of why they are ranked 16th, lowest among the five undefeated teams.
Lonta Hobbs ran for two touchdowns and Nick Browne kicked four field goals, but those were the only points TCU could muster in nine drives that started within 60 yards of the end zone. The kicks weren’t chip shots, either, as Browne made a 48- and a 49-yarder.
TCU is led by its defense, anyway, but the unit that had allowed only 37 points over the last five games gave up touchdowns on three straight drives in the middle of the game. UAB’s rally ended when quarterback Darrell Hackney got hurt.
