Cash and Carry-Over

Share

Those horseplayers who didn’t get enough action on the Breeders’ Cup card Saturday have a pick-six carry-over to shoot for today.

No one hit the local pick six Friday, and because of the Breeders’ Cup, the carry-over of $114,127 will be added to the pool this afternoon.

On a card that doesn’t feature a stakes race, Omega Code might be the most logical single. The 3-year-old Elusive Quality colt finished second in his return to California on Sept. 28 after being part of a very quick pace.

The fractions should be kinder today in the $54,000 optional claimer at 6 1/2 furlongs that attracted only four other entrants. Patrick Valenzuela will ride the Florida-bred for trainer Wesley Ward and owners Team Valor and Marguax Stallions.

The rest of the lineup, from the inside out, includes Our New Recruit, Arsen, Ride And Shine and Olmodavor, who is trained by Richard Mandella, who won four Breeders’ Cup races Saturday.

Valenzuela also has mounts in the five other pick-six races. He will be aboard Big Bonus in the fifth, Quiet Cash in the sixth, Slew Is King in the seventh, Anima Mundi in the eighth and Major Look in the ninth.

Race of the day: Apt to Be, who has won nine of 24 for owner Richard Duchossois and trainer Chris Block, is the 120-pound high-weight in the $150,000 Ack Ack Handicap, the opening day feature of Churchill Downs’ fall meet. The 7 1/2-furlong race also attracted Woodmoon, Twilight Road, Pass Rush, Cat Tracker, Dubai Sheikh and Cappuchino.

One for the road: Tactical Gold finished second in a pair of sprints at Delaware Park and now stretches out to 1 1/16 miles for high-percentage trainer Tony Dutrow in today’s sixth at Belmont Park. The son of Tactical Cat could be a single in the pick six, which has a mandatory payout because today is the final day of Belmont’s fall meet.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Theater R.N. and Dahlia Dearest in the first, Height Of Summer and Stability in the second and Ultimate Hitman and Seven Jillion in the third.
