Boise State Routs Brigham Young

Ryan Dinwiddie passed for 247 yards and two touchdowns and ran for a score and Wes Nurse returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown Thursday night as Boise State defeated Brigham Young, 50-12, at Provo, Utah.

Tim Gilligan caught eight passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns and ran for a touchdown for the Broncos (8-1), who also blocked a punt for a score to help make up for a slow offensive start.

Boise State is hoping the victory serves as a springboard into the national rankings. The Broncos made the top 25 for the first time last season, but haven’t been ranked this season.

“We’re just trying to get Boise State on the map,” Gilligan said. “No matter what team we play, we feel we have a good enough team to come in and win.”

Brigham Young (4-6) was trying to win consecutive games for the first time this season. The loss means the Cougars need to close with victories at Notre Dame and at home against Utah to avoid their first consecutive losing seasons since 1970-71. Brigham Young gave up 50 or more points for the second time in a month.

“There’s not a lot to say. They’re a good football team and they played well,” Cougar Coach Gary Crowton said.

Patrick Cobbs, the national leader in rushing yards per game, ran for 106 yards and two touchdowns and returned a blocked punt for another score before spraining his right ankle to lead North Texas (6-3) to a 21-0 victory over Troy State (4-5) at Denton, Texas.

Fired Washington coach Rick Neuheisel has put his Medina, Wash., waterfront home up for sale with an asking price of $6.2 million, $2 million more than he paid for it in 1999.

The 5,360-square-foot house with four bedrooms, five bathrooms and 130 feet of frontage on Lake Washington went on the market Oct. 21.

The down payment is listed at $1.24 million with a monthly payment of $28,945. Property taxes on the 15-year-old house are listed at $34,963.

Meanwhile, Neuheisel is likely to face legal action by the school to compel repayment of a $1.5-million loan that was part of his contract, university officials indicated.

Washington won’t have starting tailback Rich Alexis (bruised thigh), receiver Charles Frederick (bruised chest and sprained left shoulder) and guard Tusi Sa’au (back pain) when Oregon visits Saturday. Starting cornerback Roc Alexander (shoulder) and reserve Chris Massey (hernia) also are expected to miss the game.

Florida defensive end Bobby McCray was suspended for Saturday’s game against No. 4 Georgia for violating the university’s class attendance policy.... Logan Young, a Memphis, Tenn., businessman, was indicted by a grand jury for allegedly paying $150,000 to have defensive lineman Albert Means attend Alabama. Young pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Mississippi running back Ronald McClendon, the Rebels’ second-leading rusher, will not play Saturday against South Carolina as the school tries to resolve a possible rules violation regarding the junior, Coach David Cutcliffe said. Cutcliffe did not specify the type of violation.
