Groups Plan Suit Over Spotted Owl

From Times Wire Reports

Eight environmental groups have filed a 60-day notice of intent to sue the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, alleging that the agency failed to protect the California spotted owl under the federal Endangered Species Act.

The Center for Biological Diversity and the Sierra Nevada Forest Protection Campaign said Wednesday that the agency relied on incomplete information when it determined earlier this year that the owl didn’t warrant special protection.

The groups had petitioned the agency in April 2000 to protect the spotted owl, saying it was being threatened by logging on federal and private lands and was declining in numbers.
