Courts Return to Normal as Deputy Sickouts End
From Times Staff Reports
Criminal court operations returned to normal Wednesday, after two days of a staged sickout by sheriff’s deputies who bus inmates from jails to courthouses.
Four deputies called in sick Wednesday morning, compared with 103 on Monday and 93 on Tuesday. The deputies are in negotiations with the county on contracts dealing with pay and benefits.
Attorneys and judges across Los Angeles County spent the day catching up on the backlog of cases created by the sickout.
