Driver Killed After Vehicle Is Broadsided
A Thousand Oaks man was killed when his vehicle was broadsided as he left the Oak Park Shopping Center.
Jason Ely Hammer, 81, was crossing the northbound lanes of Lindero Canyon Road about 5:30 p.m. Friday when the crash occurred, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department. He died a short time later from neck and chest injuries, coroner’s officials said Saturday. A passenger in Hammer’s car was admitted to the hospital with internal injuries and was listed in serious condition.
Brant Walker, 29, the driver of the other vehicle, was treated and released from the hospital. Alcohol and drugs don’t appear to be a cause of the accident, authorities said.
