Chechnya Leader Had Food Poisoning

Chechnya’s acting president said he was recovering from food poisoning, and officials dismissed earlier suggestions that he might have been deliberately poisoned before an election.
Anatoly Popov, who is not running in Sunday’s presidential election, was hospitalized Saturday. Doctors said foul play had been ruled out.
Chechen officials working for the Moscow-backed government are frequently targets of rebels.
