Man Pleads Guilty in Canyon Attacks

A man facing retrial on sexual assault charges in an attack on two teenage girls and the beating of their boyfriends in Black Star Canyon pleaded guilty Friday to two counts of rape, authorities said.

Cuahutemoc Torres, 21, of Orange was convicted Aug. 6 on nine counts of assault with a deadly weapon, vandalism and robbery in connection with the July 3, 2001, attack on the boys, who were 16 and 17 at the time.

But the jury could not agree on whether Torres joined two others in sexually assaulting the then-13-year-old girls.

He was scheduled for retrial on the sexual assault charges April 12 but entered his plea before Orange County Superior Court Judge William Froeberg. Sentencing will be April 30. Torres is expected to be sentenced to 32 years in prison, said Mark Macaulay of the Orange County district attorney’s office.

Erick Dominguez, 22, and Jesus Green, 18, both of Anaheim, were convicted of 39 criminal counts stemming from the attack and sentenced to 91 years to life in prison.
