King Fans Waiting Impatiently

After watching the pathetic display of hockey from the Kings these past three weeks, I can understand why Fox Sports chose to use their locker room as the backdrop for “Lakers Living Room.” It is the perfect setting for team personnel who only talk about what needs to be done without actually doing it.

The Kings (and their fans) are, once again, on the outside looking in while other teams compete in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Each year, the excuse for the unmet expectations is different. This year it was injuries.

For an organization to be in the NHL for more than 35 years and manage to advance past the second round of the playoffs once (in 1993) is disgraceful. Assuming that there is a hockey season, I wonder what the excuse will be next April.

Another season, another disappointment. Truth is, King ownership has no interest in putting together a Stanley Cup contender. Why? Because that costs money, and every King fan knows Phil Anschutz and Ed Roski are only in it for the money.

Let’s face facts: If it weren’t for NHL expansion and the dilution of the talent pool, half the King roster would be in the minor leagues. It’s time for Kings’ fans to show the ownership how disgusted we are, in the only language they understand: $$$. Quit the excuses, sell the team to an owner who wants to win, and get out of L.A.

Hats off to T.J. Simers for his comments about the Kings and calling out Tim Leiweke for his guarantee and promise that the Kings would make the playoffs. How convenient for Leiweke to be out of town when the Kings are close to setting a team record for consecutive losses.

I know The Times does promotions all season long with the Kings, and that negative letters very seldom get published regarding the hockey team, but hopefully T.J.’s comments and this letter will let the King organization know that the loyal fans are fed up with promises and injury reports (Allison and Deadmarsh) that are so misleading that it has become absolutely ridiculous.
