From Times Wire Reports

Contra Costa County supervisors have given a final approval to a ban on the sale of .50-caliber rifles in the county’s unincorporated areas.

The ban, approved Tuesday, will apply to two gun dealers, neither of which currently sells the powerful weapon. Supervisors say they hope cities will follow suit with similar ordinances.

When discussing the matter, supervisors said a terrorist could use the weapon to ignite an oil refinery into a fiery chemical bomb.

National Rifle Assn. attorney Chuck Michel said he would challenge the ordinance before it takes effect next month.
