From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The city has agreed to pay $3 million to the family of an 8-year-old girl who drowned last summer during a swimming lesson at a community pool.

Sarah Deniston died Aug. 5 at the Concord Community Park pool when she slipped under the surface and wasn’t spotted by pool workers until it was too late.

Her parents filed a claim that accused the city of negligent supervision.

The $3-million settlement was approved by the Concord City Council in a closed session Tuesday night.
