This King Season Leaves Them Cold

Share

Random slap shots after another wasted King season:

* Owner Phil Anschutz needs to be mentioned in the same demeaning breath as Donald Sterling. Anschutz is one of the wealthiest people in the world yet inexplicably spends his dough on soccer teams and bankrupt newspapers while apparently reserving the Kings for tax write-off status.

* King fans are among the most loyal in sports, establishing an attendance record and selling out Staples Center 30 times this past season to watch the makeshift, minor league lineup that appeared in most games.

* Is Colorado-based Anschutz the payback for Kobe Bryant’s legal trouble?

* I finally realize that ownership group AEG is an acronym that answers the question: Are we ever going to win the Stanley Cup under their penny-pinching watch? Ain’t Ever Gonna.

If someone would have told me three years ago that Rob Blake, Mathieu Schneider, Bryan Smolinski, Glen Murray, Felix Potvin and Philippe Boucher would have a legitimate chance of winning the Stanley Cup, I would be getting ready for the parade down Figueroa.

But Tim Leiweke is running things.
