Completing the move of its corporate headquarters to Dallas, Kinko’s announced Monday that it would transfer up to 100 employees from its Ventura and Oxnard offices and lay off an additional 300 by next spring.

Kinko’s, which was acquired by FedEx Corp. in 2003, has decided to consolidate its finance and technology departments at its corporate facilities in Dallas, said spokeswoman Maggie Thill. Employees were notified Monday about the move, which is expected to be completed by May 2005.

“It was just inefficient to operate two locations, so the decision was made to consolidate,” Thill said.

The Ventura and Oxnard offices currently employ about 430 workers, with roughly half in each office. Of those, about 100 would be offered a chance to move to Dallas.

The remaining workers would be given severance pay and career counseling services, Thill said.

Kinko’s, which first established its headquarters in Ventura in 1988, had announced the move to Texas in 2001. The company cited lowering costs and centralizing operations as reasons for the move.

At the time, Kinko’s cut 350 corporate jobs nationwide, 100 of them in Ventura County, and said it would gradually relocate or cut hundreds of other jobs in the future. At one time, the company had nearly 1,000 workers in Ventura County.
