The Board of Supervisors has approved an ordinance that would allow the San Francisco Museum and Historical Society to raise money to renovate the Old Mint.

The measure, approved Monday, would allow the sale of the Old Mint’s transferable development rights to finance historic renovation and preservation work at the building.

“This is an innovative way to restore a national landmark without using a penny of taxpayer dollars,” said Supervisor Aaron Peskin, who sponsored the ordinance. “It brings us one step closer to finally realizing the dream of creating a museum for this city’s history.”
