Woman Dies in Car Crash Near CSUCI
A Thousand Oaks woman was killed early Tuesday when her car plunged off an embankment on a foggy road near Cal State Channel Islands.
Nancy McKinley, 63, died at the scene of the crash, which occurred about 6:30 a.m. on Potrero Road near Long Grade Canyon. Authorities said she was on her way to work at Point Mugu Navy Base.
For unknown reasons, McKinley’s car left the roadway and careened several hundred feet down the steep hillside, said California Highway Patrol Officer Steve Reid. A passing tow-truck driver stopped, ran down to McKinley and talked to her briefly before she died. The cause of the crash remained under investigation, Reid said.
