Trainer Paul Jones will have 40% of the field in tonight’s $131,200 El Primero Del Ano Derby at 400 yards.

The hottest of Jones’ quartet is Frequent Strawflyer. A gelded son of Strawfly Special, Frequent Strawflyer has won three straight, each by a nose. Cody Jensen will ride the California-bred.

Ramon Sanchez, who was aboard Frequent Strawflyer in his trial win March 26, stays with Mocha Blast, who also won his trial by a nose at 3-5.

The other Jones runners in the Grade II are Ocean Cartel, who has won five of 13, and Awise Chick. Appeals King Special, Sapranos Play Boy, Ancient Mariner, Knud Chicks, Frankly First and Call Me Corona complete the field.
