Curtis Takes Lead After Shooting 66

Ben Curtis shot a season-best five-under-par 66 Friday to take a one-stroke lead over Heath Slocum after the second round of the MCI Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, S.C.

Curtis was at eight-under 134. Slocum shot a 67. Ted Purdy also had a 67 and was two strokes off the lead.

Curtis, who won the British Open last year at Royal St. George’s as the 396th-ranked player in the world, earned more than $1.4 million last season and was voted the tour’s rookie of the year.

But he arrived at Harbour Town 114th on the money list, having made only one cut in his five previous tournaments.

Slocum missed a chance to move into a tie for the lead at the ninth hole, his last, but missed a 15-foot putt.

Cristie Kerr shot a five-under 67 to take a four-shot lead in the Takefjui Classic at the Las Vegas Country Club.

Kerr moved to eight-under 136 through two rounds. She began the day in a four-way tie for the lead at three under.

Heather Daly-Donofrio (68), Seol-An Jeon (70) and Stacy Prammanasudh (71) were tied for second at 140.

Fuzzy Zoeller shot a five-under 65 in the opening round of the Champions Tour Blue Angels Classic at Milton, Fla., for a one-stroke lead over Gil Morgan and Bob Gilder.
