King Robyn Tries to Rule Again

Share
Times Staff Writer

King Robyn did about everything a horse could do in 2003, winning eight of 11 starts and accomplishing a first: He won stakes races at all six Southern California meets -- Santa Anita winter-spring, Hollywood Park spring-summer, Del Mar, Fairplex Park, Oak Tree and Hollywood Park fall.

But in two starts this year, King Robyn is winless, a drought he’ll try to break tonight at Hollywood Park in the third race, a $54,000 optional claimer at 5 1/2 furlongs.

Post time for the first of 12 Friday night cards during the season is 7:05 p.m.

King Robyn has been exceptional on the Hollywood Park grass. He’s three for three there, including a win in the Hollywood Turf Express on Nov. 28.

King Robyn, who will be ridden by Alex Solis, will have five opponents -- two of which have won over the Hollywood Park turf. F J’s Pace, a 9-year-old with 18 career wins, three of them in Inglewood; Thunder Bullet has one victory in three starts here.

Race of the day: Kim Loves Bucky will be seeking his third consecutive victory in the $150,000 Elkhorn, a Grade III and the closing-day feature at Keeneland. Nine others are in the 1 1/2-mile turf race.

One for the road: Raneem looked good winning against $50,000 claimers on April 1 and can handle the jump in class in the eighth race at Aqueduct, a $52,000 optional claimer at six furlongs.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using New York Dancer in the fourth, Gold Bankers Gold, We All Love Aleyna, Congressional Run and Pleasure Honor in the fifth and Is It True Mex, Devote and Free Cheers in the sixth.

Winners: Previous day/meet total: 3/6. Money: Previous day/meet total: $18.60/$40.80. Total money bet: $32.
