Two people, including a teenage boy, died Saturday in separate accidents on the Antelope Valley Freeway that also critically injured five people, the California Highway Patrol said.

The first accident occurred about 5 a.m. when a 27-year-old Quartz Hill resident crashed into the side of an aqueduct bridge near Avenue S, authorities said. Gerardo Delgado was thrown from his car and killed.

About 11:30 a.m., Eric Buchanan Jr., 14, of Lancaster was killed when the southbound van in which he was a passenger blew a rear tire and overturned, authorities said. Five people were hospitalized in critical condition, a CHP officer said.
