House Bill Targets EchoStar’s 2-Dish Plan

From Bloomberg News

EchoStar Communications Corp. was dealt a blow by a House panel that passed a bill forbidding the No. 2 satellite broadcaster from forcing subscribers to use two dish antennas to receive all local news and programs.

EchoStar’s customers have to request a second satellite dish to receive Spanish-language and religious programming. Religious broadcasters and Spanish-language TV networks such as Univision Communications Inc. contend that Englewood, Colo.-based EchoStar isolates their channels on the less-popular second dish.

EchoStar’s shares fell 70 cents to $33.33 on Nasdaq.
