Don’t Lose the Open Space of Fairgrounds

Share

Re “Sell O.C.’s Fair Site?” Aug. 4: Selling the Orange County fairgrounds would be a monumental mistake. Once you sell open space to build houses, the open space is lost forever. The fairgrounds are used more than once a year. There is a Native American powwow scheduled for the last weekend of August and a car show scheduled for Labor Day weekend. Throughout the year, there are gun shows, travel shows, gem shows, etc. The Orange County swap meet is held there every weekend when the fair is not in progress.

We already have 35 million people in California and nearly 300 million in the United States. Instead of trying to figure out where to build the next great housing tract, we should be working to limit population growth.
