The fifth and final participant has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for aiding a would-be hit man who missed his mark three times, but killed a 9-year-old girl.
Truong Quang Quach, 34, of Sacramento helped other arsonists who firebombed a Carmichael home on Jan. 7, 1997, killing young Hien Tran as fire swept through her suburban Sacramento bedroom.
The girl’s uncle, Tri Tran, was the intended target of the firebombing. He was injured as he tried to rescue his niece. Another uncle was critically burned.
The hit man, who had tried to kill Tri Tran twice previously to collect a $7,000 payment, was sentenced to life in prison, as were two accomplices. The fourth participant was sentenced to 17 years because he cooperated with investigators.
