From Bloomberg News

Boeing Co. won an order from an unidentified customer for five 777 commercial aircraft worth about $1 billion.

The Chicago-based company disclosed the order on its website last week. The value of the order for the 777-300ER models is based on their $218-million list price and doesn’t reflect discounts normally given to customers.

Boeing on Friday replaced head aircraft salesman Toby Bright with Boeing executive Scott Carson after traditional Boeing customer Air Berlin last month ordered 70 planes from Airbus, which has overtaken Boeing as the world’s biggest maker of commercial aircraft. Boeing has won 216 orders this year worth $19.8 billion, compared with 218 worth $13.9 billion for Airbus, which is based in Toulouse, France.

The Airbus total doesn’t include the Air Berlin order, which has not been completed.

The 777-300ER is Boeing’s newest version of the 777 model. It normally carries about 365 passengers, like the 777-300 base model, but can fly about 25% farther for a range of 8,500 miles.

Boeing shares fell 51 cents to $54.75 on the New York Stock Exchange. They have risen 44% over the last year.
