Ronald Curry’s hunch about his hurt Achilles’ tendon was right -- he’s done for the season.

The receiver tore the tendon during Sunday’s 34-27 loss to Kansas City and will have surgery soon, Oakland Raider Coach Norv Turner said Monday. The team hopes to have Curry back at full strength by training camp after what’s expected to be six months of rehabilitation. Curry had the same injury to his right Achilles’ tendon during college at North Carolina.

“He’s been through it,” Turner said. “They say it’s around six months, but if he can cut with the left one the way he does with the right one, he’s going to be fine. The disappointing thing is, you watched it, his emergence as a playmaker, as a receiver.”

The 25-year-old Curry has a team-high 50 catches and six touchdowns receiving. He trails Jerry Porter in yardage, 725-679.

New York Jet defensive end John Abraham will sit out Sunday’s game at Pittsburgh because of a sprained ligament in his right knee.

Coach Herman Edwards said an MRI exam revealed the injury to the ligament, and Abraham is week to week. Defensive coordinator Donnie Henderson said the Jets could bring in an additional lineman this week.

One possibility is Matt Walters, who was with the team last season but cut during training camp this year. Former first-round pick Bryan Thomas will start in place of Abraham, who leads the team with 9 1/2 sacks.

Tennessee cornerback Samari Rolle had surgery on his left knee and will be out at least two weeks. The Titans lost linebacker Rocky Calmus for the season because of a strained left hamstring.

Philadelphia defensive end Derrick Burgess will sit out the rest of the regular season because of a chest injury.

Veteran Hugh Douglas will replace Burgess in the starting lineup, with defensive tackle Darwin Walker also shifting over at times.
