The Joy of Not Driving

Share

Re “Licenses Take a Back Seat,” Dec. 2: I got my learners’ permit in 1999, took one spin around the block, and then just let it lapse. Ever since then, I’ve relied on public transportation.

Currently, I commute to school at UC Irvine from Oceanside using two buses and the Metrolink train. One reason I do it is to see people’s reaction when I say I ride the bus.

I like being the new face of public transportation and showing that you can be an active, productive member of society and not have a driver’s license, even in California.
