Hasty Kris Is in the Noe

In his only other trip to Calder, Hasty Kris won the $100,000 Kenny Noe Jr. Handicap, defeating Wake At Noon by a head.

The 7-year-old Kissin Kris gelding, trained by John Sadler, is scheduled to defend his title in the seven-furlong race this afternoon. The Noe is part of an all-stakes pick four at Calder.

Besides the Noe, the other races in the sequence are the $200,000 La Prevoyante Handicap for fillies and mares at 1 1/2 miles on the turf, the $200,000 W.L. McKnight Handicap for older horses at 1 1/2 miles on the grass and the $100,000 Fred W. Hooper Handicap for older at 1 1/8 miles.

In the La Prevoyante, which is a Grade II, Something Ventured will be seeking her second stakes victory at Calder in two weeks.

She won the My Charmer Handicap by a length on Dec. 4. Jerry Bailey will ride the 5-year-old Cobra King mare for owners Irvin Weiner and John McLane and trainer Todd Pletcher.

Weigelia, who has won five of nine over the track, is the horse to beat in the Noe; Dr. Brendler, Dreadnaught and Irish Colonial top the field in the McKnight; Super Frolic, A Huevo and The Judge Sez Who are among the contenders in the Hooper.

Race of the day: Seize The Day, who finished third to Hollywood Futurity favorite Declan’s Moon in the Hollywood Prevue on Nov. 20, will try two turns for the first time in today’s $50,000 Gold Rush at Golden Gate Fields. Roberto Gonzalez will ride the 2-year-old son of Montbrook for trainer Kristin Mulhall in the one-mile race.

One for the road: Carson’s Bridge was very impressive breaking his maiden at first asking on Nov. 20 and can come right back for trainer Richard Dutrow Jr. in today’s $50,000 City Zip at Aqueduct. Rafael Bejarano will ride the 2-year-old Carson City colt for owner Anthony Drakas in the six-furlong race, which is the seventh on the card.

Exotically speaking: A late pick four using Time For Liberty, Excess Summer, Is It True Mex and Whirley Side in the seventh, Declan’s Moon in the eighth, John The Mail Man and Double Option in the ninth and the Who’s Aleyna entry and Cat A Cold Eye in the 10th.
