Stephens and Texas Handle Texas Tech

Stacy Stephens scored 28 points on 10-for-10 shooting and had 12 rebounds to lead No. 3 Texas past No. 7 Texas Tech, 82-73, Sunday at Austin, Texas, extending the Longhorns’ home winning streak to 30.

Tiffany Jackson had 19 points and six rebounds in her third start of the season for Texas, which improved to 19-2 overall and 7-1 in the Big 12 Conference.

With her rebounding and soft shooting touch, Stephens controlled the game late. She scored 10 points over the last eight minutes after her free throw gave Texas a 58-56 lead.

Alesha Robertson scored 15 to lead Texas Tech (18-3, 4-3) but made only six of 21 shots.

Texas has won four in a row over Texas Tech, the longest streak in the series since the Longhorns won 37 in a row from 1977 to 1991.

Texas Tech is 3-2 since standout guard Jia Perkins left the team last month with an undisclosed medical condition.

No. 1 Tennessee 68, No. 22 Auburn 61 -- Shyra Ely converted a three-point play and Ashley Robinson made two free throws late in overtime, helping the Lady Vols (18-1, 7-0) hold off the Tigers (16-5, 4-3) in a Southeastern Conference game at Knoxville, Tenn.

Freshman Sidney Spencer had 14 points to lead Tennessee, which has won 51 consecutive SEC games at home.

No. 5 Penn State 64, Northwestern 51 -- Reicina Russell had 22 points and 16 rebounds, and the Nittany Lions (17-3, 9-0) defeated the Wildcats (7-13, 0-9) at State College, Pa., to match their best start ever in Big Ten Conference play.

No. 10 North Carolina 66, Florida State 60 -- Camille Little scored six of her 27 points in the last 2 1/2 minutes as the Tar Heels (17-3, 7-2) held off the Seminoles (10-10, 3-6) in an Atlantic Coast Conference game at Chapel Hills, N.C.

No. 19 Georgia 71, Alabama 68 -- Freshman Janese Hardrick had a career-high 30 points to lead the Bulldogs (15-5, 4-3) over the Crimson Tide (10-10, 2-5) in an SEC game at Athens, Ga.

Florida 92, No. 24 Vanderbilt 83 --Tashia Morehead scored 26 points, and the Gators (15-5, 5-2) used a 10-1 run to end a 13-game home winning streak for the Commordores (16-4, 4-3) in an SEC game at Nashville.
