A man was killed in a shootout with sheriff’s deputies at Jesse Owens County Park.
Just before midnight Monday, two deputies saw a group of men standing at a corner, including two with handguns, said Sgt. Paul Patterson.
The two armed men ran, and, as they rounded a corner at 98th Street and Western Avenue, one fired at the pursuing deputies, Patterson said. They shot back, causing the man to drop his weapon and fall.
As other deputies arrived, Patterson said, the gunman retrieved his pistol and tried to stand. The deputies killed him. Coroner’s officials identified him as Eric Lamont Wilson.
