Shawn Horcoff and Raffi Torres each had a goal and an assist, and the Edmonton Oilers beat the struggling Atlanta Thrashers, 5-1, Wednesday night in a game that ended with a wild brawl at Edmonton, Canada.

Horcoff beat Pasi Nurminen with a low shot early in the third period after receiving a pass from Ryan Smyth, who kept the puck alive in the Atlanta zone.

Nurminen was ejected in the final minutes for fighting with Edmonton goalie Ty Conklin during the melee. The Thrashers finished with no goalie because starter Byron Dafoe injured his groin earlier in the game.

The Thrashers’ frustration boiled over at 18:11 of the third period, when the brawl erupted in the neutral zone near the Atlanta bench. Everyone on the ice paired up. Things got bizarre when Serge Aubin tossed Oiler rookie Mike Bishai into the Atlanta bench. Bishai got to his legs and continued to trade punches with Aubin.

All 12 players on the ice received fighting majors and 10 received game misconducts.

Detroit 4, San Jose 2 -- Steve Yzerman scored twice, lifting the Red Wings at Detroit.

Detroit goaltender Curtis Joseph sprained his right ankle and was replaced by Manny Legace to start the second period.

Joseph had surgery Aug. 19 to remove bone chips from his right ankle.

New York Rangers 3, New Jersey 1 -- Mike Dunham had 28 saves and the Rangers earned their first regulation win over the host Devils in almost three years.

Chicago 5, Nashville 2 -- Steve Sullivan, Alex Zhamnov and Bryan Berard each had a goal and an assist at Chicago.

Calgary 3, Vancouver 2 -- Jarome Iginla scored 28 seconds into the third period, lifting the Flames at Vancouver, Canada.
