Neighborhoods to Decide on Joining Yorba Linda

Residents of two small, unincorporated neighborhoods near the southern part of Yorba Linda will vote Tuesday on whether to annex themselves to the city.

The vote comes after the Local Agency Formation Commission approved in December 2002 the city’s plan to annex 222 acres known as the Country Club territory and 147 acres called Fairlynn.

As part of the annexation process, LAFCO conducted hearings at which more than 25% of the residents of the areas opposed annexation, which led to the vote. A simple majority of votes in the combined area is required for annexation.

The Country Club territory contains 295 single-family homes and the Yorba Linda Country Club, an 18-hole, 111-acre private golf course.

Fairlynn has 382 single-family homes, 248 condominiums and commercial properties. Both are currently under Orange County jurisdiction.

“The state and county and LAFCO are trying to shift municipal services” that the county is now providing to those residents to the city, said Patricia Haley, Yorba Linda’s director of community development.

Annexation opponents were unavailable for comment.
