39 Militia Fighters Killed in Leftist Attack

Leftist rebels attacked a village controlled by right-wing paramilitary fighters in northern Colombia, killing 39 fighters and a villager, police said.
The assault in Pozo Azul in Bolivar state was one of a series of attacks on villages controlled by paramilitary fighters, police commander Col. Jesus Gomez said.
Rebels also attacked the villages of Monterrey and Pueblo, but no deaths were immediately reported.
