Teens Die in Crash on New Year’s Day
Teenage sweethearts died just hours into the new year after the boyfriend, an unlicensed driver, borrowed his parents’ truck without permission, then lost control and hit a tree.
Alex Farias, 15, borrowed the truck, but lost control while driving down a Visalia street at high speed, police said.
The crash killed Farias’ passenger and girlfriend, Patricia Luna, also 15. Farias died Thursday afternoon at a Fresno hospital from major head injuries. Neither passenger was wearing a seat belt, police said.
Farias and Luna were sophomores at Redwood High School and had been dating for the last several months, according to family and friends.
