Four senior administration officials named to state jobs in the days before Gov. Gray Davis left office in November won quick bipartisan approval Wednesday from the Senate Rules Committee.

The appointments now move to the full Senate for expected approval.

Daniel Zingale, former Davis cabinet secretary, and Michael Bustamante, former deputy chief of staff, were confirmed as members of the Agricultural Labor Relations Board, with annual salaries of $114,191.

Steven Maviglio, former press secretary, and Ann Richardson, former chief deputy legislative secretary, were confirmed as appointees to the Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board, also with annual salaries of $114,191.

In a deal negotiated late last year by Senate President Pro Tem John Burton (D-San Francisco) and Sen. Ross Johnson (R-Irvine), Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger agreed to allow 17 last-minute Davis appointments to stand, a courtesy new governors typically extend to their predecessors.

The panel, chaired by Burton and co-chaired by Johnson, also approved 13 other Davis appointees to various state boards and commissions.
