From Times Staff and Wire Reports

An Oakland volunteer center that helped distribute government money to youth groups and community programs for 25 years will undergo a city audit over allegations that it misused public money.

The Volunteer Center of Alameda County, which had offices in Oakland and Pleasanton, filed for bankruptcy in late December. Employees said the center had been plagued with financial troubles for some time, with paychecks coming late and money earmarked for special programs disappearing with little or no explanation.

Coordinators of a program that distributes government funds to youth groups called Force of Change expected to receive $106,000 of a $300,000 grant the city approved for the program last July.
