The gag is back on.

Content with letting the loquacious Stewart twins, Lodrick and Rodrick, spin their tales on their homecoming trip to Washington, Coach Henry Bibby has again closed media access to the talkative freshmen.

“No reason, coach’s decision,” Bibby said Tuesday, before adding with a laugh, “They’re too young to talk.”

Rodrick was crestfallen when Paul Goldberg, assistant sports information director, gave him the news. “What, we say something wrong again?” Rodrick asked Goldberg.

The twins, who chose USC over Washington coming out of Rainier Beach High, were the toast of the Seattle media scene after the Trojans’ 88-80 win over the Huskies on Thursday. Both were surrounded by cameras and reporters after Rodrick, the starting point guard, tied his career high with 14 points to go with four assists and three rebounds and Lodrick, a gunner off the bench, had nine points, three assists and a career-best six steals.

The two seemingly unnerved Bibby with their brutal honesty and assessments early in the season and Bibby’s gag order ended for a week, a day before the Trojans’ trip to the Pacific Northwest.

“They might not talk the rest of the year,” Bibby said.

Former point guard Quinton Day, a freshman who went home to Kansas City for Christmas and never came back, has enrolled in school at Missouri Kansas City, according to USC sources.

Day, a two-time Kansas City high school player of the year who averaged 20.2 points as a senior at Paseo Academy, averaged one point in 5.3 minutes of six games with the Trojans.

“He was like another brother to us,” Lodrick Stewart said last week. “It was hard seeing him leave, we were still trying to talk him into coming back ... but he was real frustrated in how much playing time he was getting and all kinds of stuff.

“He wasn’t a momma’s boy but he liked being around his mom too, so that was hard. I just told him, ‘You’ve got to get away ... and grow, get mature.’ ”

Should Day play for the Kangaroos, he would be eligible next January.
