Fab except for one small thing

Nice sleuthing in the case of the Fab Four vs. The Gloved One and Phil Spector (“It’s Indeed a Long and Winding Road,” by Randy Lewis, Jan. 22). Also in support of your case is the fact that 1976 was the American bicentennial and, as the leaders of the British Invasion during the previous decade, they felt responsible to invade the U.S. one more time out of duty to queen and country. They weren’t knighted for nothing.

Yet, while your assertions make perfect sense in an Oliver Stonian way, you forgot one well-known fact: Paul died in the ‘60s. Russ Gibb of Detroit proved that by exposing over 196 “coincidences.” https://about thebeatles.com/paulisdead clues.html While history may bear witness that 11/18/2003 will supplant 9/11/2001 as the most important date in U.S. history, it won’t be because of Paul McCartney, the husband to Linda Eastman and Heather Mills. He’s not the Walrus. Just play the re-release of “Let It Be” backward on a Dual 1210 turntable with a Shure V15 Type II cartridge at 44 rpm.

Sweet memories of Larchmont

Thanks for the memories of my childhood on Larchmont (“A Village Centered on Cafe Society,” by Elaine Dutka, Jan. 22). Browsing the aisles to check out the newest arrivals at Toy-O-Rama was an adventure for any kid, and the new school year wasn’t complete without a trip to the Larchmont Bootery. There were only two restaurants, but a real treat and neighborhood secret was getting a big chocolate chip cookie for 10 cents from the Coffee Cup Restaurant at the bottom of the Larchmont Medical Building. If I had that recipe today, a nice and tasty retirement would be forthcoming, plus some serious competition to Mrs. Fields.

Happy to catch the fever again

A while ago I was in Amoeba Music when Dengue Fever (“A Catching Fever,” by Susan Carpenter, Jan. 22) did a live show. From the first few lines, I was bowled over by their dynamic sound and stage presence. I bought several copies of their CD and looked forward to seeing them play around town, but they disappeared off the radar. Now I know why. So glad they’re back.

Zooey’s weekend is the snooze

What fun Zooey Deschanel has going to the Bing Theater at LACMA “where it’s all elderly people falling asleep” (“Old Movies, Coats Just Make Her Day,” Jan. 22).

More fun is reading about her weekend, except in doing so I fell asleep.
