Train Kills Bicyclist, 80, Near Ventura
From a Times Staff Writer
An 80-year-old La Conchita man was struck and killed by an Amtrak train near Ventura, authorities said Saturday.
The man was walking with his bike south along the tracks and was hit from behind by the passenger train about 7:30 p.m. Friday, Ventura County sheriff’s officials said. The man’s identity was withheld pending notification of relatives.
He had ridden his bicycle to Carpinteria and was returning when he was struck, authorities said. The incident is under investigation.
