Weekend box office

The record six-day figure of $180.1 million for “Spider-Man 2” dominated box-office news, but “Fahrenheit 9/11” added $22 million Friday through Monday to bring its total to $61.1 million. “Fahrenheit” business is biggest in California, New York, Florida, Texas and Illinois, in that order.

Looking at movies in limited release, MGM’s Cole Porter biopic “De-Lovely” grossed $25,000 per theater in 16 locations for a four-day total of $400,000. Crowds skewed older, with 78% over 40, and 56% attending were female. “Before Sunset,” the debut release of the art-house division Warner Independent Pictures, garnered $15,559 in 20 theaters for a total of $311,194. “The Clearing,” the Fox Searchlight kidnapping drama with Robert Redford, Helen Mirren and Willem Dafoe, took in $11,048 per location for a total of $618,674 in 56 theaters. “America’s Heart and Soul” averaged $1,889 in 98 locations for a total of $184,917, according to Disney.
