Unbeaten Summer Leader Leaves His Mark

Share

John Dowling’s Painted Pitchfork, a farm based in Colorado, has another talented paint horse on its hands.

Following in the footsteps of Boy Of Summer, who was sensational at Los Alamitos in 2003 and who is unbeaten in eight starts, Summer Leader is three for three after winning the $71,000 California Paint Futurity on Saturday.

Trained by Samantha Valencia, who also trains Boy Of Summer, Summer Leader won as the 6-5 favorite under jockey Guillermo Suarez and completed the 350 yards in 17.80 seconds.

A son of Special Leader, who won the Champions of Champions at Los Alamitos in 1991, Summer Leader probably won’t make his next appearance at the track until December in the Masterpiece Futurity, which was won by Boy Of Summer last year.
