Mark James shot a five-under 67 Saturday at Dearborn, Mich., and took the third-round lead at the Senior Players Championship, one of the Champions Tour’s five majors.

James is at 14-under 202, three strokes ahead of Gary McCord and Jose Maria Canizares. They both shot a one-under 71.

Dana Quigley shared the lead with James at 14 under until a quadruple bogey at the par-five 17th.

He then bogeyed the last hole, falling to even-par 72 for the round, and nine under for the tournament. He is tied for sixth.

Jose Coceres put himself in good position to win his third PGA Tour title, shooting two three-under 68s to take a two-stroke lead in the John Deere Classic at Silvis, Ill.

Coceres, whose only bogey in 25 holes came on his final hole, had a 15-under 198. Greg Chalmers was in second place after finishing a third-round 69 with a birdie.

Both Coceres and Chalmers finished the rain-delayed second round Saturday morning, with Coceres taking a one-stroke lead over Chalmers into the third round.

Meg Mallon is close to pulling off a rare feat in women’s golf.

Still on a roll after winning last weekend’s U.S. Women’s Open, Mallon shot a seven-under 65 to extend her lead after the third round of the Canadian Women’s Open at Niagara Falls, Ontario.

She’s now 16-under 200 for the tournament, four strokes ahead of second-place Beth Daniel, the defending champion who shot a 67.

Mallon’s run -- she’s 26 under in her last five rounds of competition -- has put her in position to become only the third player to follow a U.S. Women’s Open victory by winning an LPGA event the next week.

Se Ri Pak was the last to do so in 1998 by winning the Jamie Farr Kroger Classic, joining Jane Geddes, who accomplished the feat in 1986.
