Disney tunes will go on tour
Disney Theatrical Productions is sending “On the Record,” a staged compilation of songs from the Disney catalog, across much of the eastern half of America starting in September.
The tour is expected to head west next summer, beginning with an engagement at San Diego Civic Theatre (Aug. 30-Sept. 4, 2005) and followed by a yet-to-be-scheduled stop in the Los Angeles area.
Set in a studio where “the ultimate collection of Disney songs” is being recorded, the show will feature six adult characters, but there won’t be time for much spoken dialogue -- the score includes 64 songs.
A Disney spokesman said the show “is not children’s theater but is family-friendly, as well as a show for adults who want an evening out.” There are no plans to take “On the Record” to Broadway.
