The city’s disgruntled police officers vowed to follow through on their plan to picket dozens of events on the eve of the Democratic National Convention, despite winning a four-year pay raise of 14.5% from an independent arbitrator Thursday.

The Boston Police Patrolmen’s Assn. intends to protest at the 29 delegate-welcome parties that Mayor Thomas M. Menino will play host to Sunday night and says it may picket other events attended by the mayor -- but will not picket events attended by Sen. John F. Kerry.

“We fully expect our lines will be up Sunday night,” union President Thomas Nee said, flanked by a dozen other officers. “We will have the support of our brothers and sisters from around the country.”

He said the pickets will be a gesture of solidarity with smaller police bargaining units and firefighters still without a contract.

Menino accused the union of having ulterior motives.

“We’ve got a contract.... If they’re going to continue to picket, there has to be another agenda.”
