SAG Members Reject Increase in Dues
Members of the Screen Actors Guild rejected a $7.3-million dues increase aimed at bolstering the union’s finances and shoring up its strike fund before its next contract negotiations.
The controversial proposal would have increased the base dues for actors by $30 a year and boosted the initiation payment for new members to $2,085 from $1,356.
SAG Treasurer James Cromwell said the union “will find a way to live within our means.”
The 120,000-member union is scheduled to begin talks with studios this year on a new contract. Its current pact expires in 2005.
