King Reinstates Premier He Ousted in 2002

Nepal’s King Gyanendra appointed former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to his old post, with Deuba pledging to restore political stability and oversee new parliamentary elections.
Massive demonstrations in recent months have demanded that Gyanendra bring back democracy, saying he overstepped his authority by replacing an elected government, headed by Deuba, with a monarchist one in 2002. The king at the time had accused Deuba of incompetence.
