“Saturday Night Live” creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels has been named this year’s recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for Humor. Michaels will receive the award on Oct. 25 at the Kennedy Center in Washington.

The Mark Twain Prize recognizes people who have had an impact on American society much as the 19th century novelist and essayist did. The prize was established as an annual event in 1998; previous winners include Richard Pryor, Carl Reiner and Lily Tomlin.
