Court Extends Deadline for Property Tax Ruling
From Staff and Wire Reports
The California Supreme Court has extended until Aug. 4 its deadline to decide whether to review a property tax case from Orange County.
The lawsuit involves a practice used by assessors in California to “recapture” assessed value when properties recover from a real estate slump. The method allows assessments to rise above the 2% annual growth limit approved by voters in 1978.
A Superior Court judge ruled the practice unconstitutional in 2001. In March, a state appeals court overturned that ruling.
