Wizards Tie Earthquakes and Move Ahead of Galaxy

Richard Mulrooney scored his first goal of the season in the 79th minute to even the score and give the San Jose Earthquakes a 1-1 tie with Kansas City on Saturday night in front of 10,188 at San Jose.

Kansas City (6-4-4) took a one-point lead over the Galaxy in the Western Conference standings. San Jose (4-3-5) remained in third place.

Mulrooney scored with a left-footed shot from 18 yards away after being set up by Brian Mullan and Landon Donovan.

Kansas City’s Jose Burciaga Jr. scored his first career goal seconds before halftime to give the Wizards (6-4-4) a 1-0 lead.

Dallas 1, Washington 1 -- Jason Kreis became the career goals leader in MLS history, scoring in the 37th minute as the Burn (4-4-4) tied D.C. United (4-5-5) in front of 13,833 at Dallas.

Kreis’ 89th career goal broke the record held by Roy Lassiter. Kreis took a pass from Oscar Pareja and placed a left-footed shot into the left corner of the net.

Alecko Eskandarian had a goal in the 58th minute to help United salvage the tie on a soggy Cotton Bowl field.

New England 2, New York/New Jersey 1 -- Felix Brillant and Clint Dempsey scored early in the second half to lead the Revolution (3-7-3) over the MetroStars (5-4-4) in front of 9,891 at Foxboro, Mass.

Patrick Noonan set up both New England goals, in the 64th and 67th minutes.

Colorado 2, Columbus 1 -- The Rapids (3-3-6) took advantage of an own goal by the Crew (4-5-3), and forward Jean Philippe Peguero scored a goal for the victory in front of 13,407 at Columbus, Ohio.

Second-half substitute Edson Buddle scored for the Crew in the 89th minute.
