From Times Wire Reports

The City Council decided Tuesday to work with the California Coastal Commission to restrict large-scale condominium developments in the city’s so-called artisan “funk zone.”

The council voted to submit to the coastal panel a new application that restricts new hotels in the zone and requires residential developers on lots of 5,000 square feet or larger to designate 30% of a project for commercial business.

“Without limitations, this area will succumb to high-density, high-priced luxury housing,” said Naomi Kovacs, executive director of the Citizens Planning Assn.
