Universal Music Group plans to name veteran executive Polly Anthony co-president of its Geffen Records label, sources said Friday.

Anthony, who left rival Sony Corp.’s Epic Records last year after a management shake-up, will share supervision of Geffen with co-president Jordan Schur, who has run the Santa Monica-based unit since 1999.

Under Schur, Geffen, a unit of Universal’s massive Interscope Records complex, has released hits by such acts as Puddle of Mudd.

The move comes as Universal is trying to digest DreamWorks Records, which it acquired last year for an estimated $100 million.

DreamWorks SKG sold its recorded-music business last year amid lackluster sales. The label earned a reputation as a haven for critical favorites but scored few hits, among them rock band AFI and country star Toby Keith.

Under Anthony and Schur, Geffen is expected to take on a share of the executives and acts remaining from DreamWorks’ roster. Details of the integration have not yet been finalized, sources said.

Universal declined to comment.
